The Taking Action for Wildlife Team will present several workshops focused on the protection of wildlife this year. BioBlitz 101; presented by Haley Andreozzi, and Charlotte Thompson from UNH Extension, will provide guidance on planning, useful ideas, and additional resources to support your efforts organizing and implementing a BioBlitz. Learn how to implement a species scavenger hunt in your community an enlist the help volunteers who find and record data on wild living things in a certain area for a set amount of time.
Wendy Scribner, Natural Resources Field Specialist with UNH Cooperative Extension, will present: Invasive Species Control & Forest Management. Learn more about some of the characteristics of these plants, control measures, and ways to strategically focus your time and effort for the most impact on your project, property, or community. Invasive species are often able to outcompete our native species and can reduce native biodiversity, influencing forest health and regeneration, wildlife habitats, and recreational activities.
The Trails for People and Wildlife program will be presented by Rachel Stevens, from NH Fish & Game. Trails for People and Wildlife is a statewide mapping tool that can be used to locate new trails in a way that minimizes impacts to wildlife and also decreases the need for ongoing maintenance. Additionally, it can be used to assess existing trails for potential impact on wildlife and to identify locations for on-the-ground best management practices that minimize trail maintenance. This program will highlight real world case studies where the tool has been implemented.
Learn more about the biology of beavers and the importance of the species with a panel of experts from NH Fish & Game and Beaver Deceivers. Joshua Megyesy, Ben Nugent and Patrick Tate, NH Fish & Game will sit on a panel with Skip Lisle from Beaver Deceivers during this workshop. Find out how they manage and monitor the beaver population in NH. Discover how your commission can help to improve habitat while finding creative ways to control beaver activity. Join this session and share your town's experience with beaver management.
