Community Assistance Application

Online Community Assistance Application

The Taking Action for Wildlife team offers direct technical assistance to communities interested in incorporating wildlife considerations into local conservation and land use planning and actions. There is no fee for this assistance. Assistance includes:

  • Conducting or updating an NRI
  • Incorporating wildlife and habitat information in your town's natural resources inventory (NRI)
  • Actively using the NRI in conservation planning and other related activities
  • Identifying priority habitat conservation areas
  • Integrating wildlife information into other existing town documents (e.g. master plan) and policies (e.g. zoning)
  • Developing guidelines for managing town-owned lands in ways that support wildlife
  • Plan landowner and public outreach and education
  • Access a range of wildlife information resources

Communities must be willing to commit portions of at least 2-3 of their regularly scheduled Conservation Commission meetings to working with Taking Action for Wildlife staff.  We need around an hour of meeting time to review wildlife information and facilitate discussion of your goals.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Complete and submit the online application (above)
